Since the beginning of May 2025, at least 54 individuals in Singapore have fallen victim to e-commerce scams involving Pokémon trading cards, resulting in collective losses exceeding S$111,000.
Scammers primarily operated on online marketplaces like Carousell, listing rare and sought-after cards at attractive prices. Once potential buyers expressed interest, these fraudsters shifted communications to private messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram.
Victims were then persuaded to make payments via PayNow or bank transfers. After the transactions, the promised cards never arrived, and the sellers became uncontactable.
