Mega Pokémon TCG Set Launches in Australia – What You Need to Know

Mega Evolutions Return in 2025’s Headline Pokémon Set

Australian Pokémon TCG fans are in for a treat with the upcoming Mega Pokémon set, scheduled to launch this August 2025. After years of absence, Mega Evolutions are finally returning to the game — not just in reprints, but with entirely new card mechanics, artworks, and meta-shifting abilities.

With inspiration from the XY-era and modern card styles, this new set blends nostalgia and competitive relevance in one power-packed release.

Confirmed New Cards (So Far)

Here are some of the headline cards revealed during the recent Pokémon Presents broadcast and official Japanese promo leaks:

  • Mega Charizard EX (Dark Flame Form) – A new twist on a fan favourite with aggressive burn synergy

  • Mega Lucario EX – Built for VMAX counters and late-game bursts

  • Mega Gardevoir EX – Featuring dual typing and bench-warping abilities

  • Full Art Sycamore & Diantha Trainer Cards

  • Mega Evolution Mechanic – Uses a revamped rule set: “When this Pokémon Mega Evolves, skip your next attack.” (Returning from XY, but with new counterplay options)

We’re expecting more reveals from Japanese set ‘Hyper Drive Impact’, which is rumoured to tie directly into the Mega release globally.

What Products Are Coming?

Australian retailers and distributors have confirmed a full product lineup for the Mega Pokémon set, including:

  • Booster Boxes

  • Elite Trainer Boxes (ETBs) – Two designs: Mega Charizard X & Mega Lucario

  • 3-Pack Blisters – With exclusive Mega Evolution-themed promos

  • Build & Battle Boxes – Early release kits confirmed for pre-release stores

  • Collector’s Premium Box – With 6 packs, a Mega-themed pin, jumbo card, and etched foil promo

Some Australian stores may also receive the limited Pokémon Center International variant ETBs, which include additional goodies for collectors.

Release Dates & Aussie Availability

  • Australian Release Date: August 16, 2025

  • Preorders Go Live: Friday, July 26

  • Early Access (Pre-release Kits): From August 9 via select LGS (local game stores)

Distribution for this set is expected to be much stronger than early 2024’s Paldean Fates. Local suppliers report healthy allocations and restocks well into September. Most major retailers are aiming to honour RRP pricing, especially for sealed product.

Here at Click and Collectables, we’ll be stocking all products as close to RRP as we can with tracked shipping Australia-wide and exclusive early preorder bundles available soon.

Final Thoughts

Whether you're a collector chasing iconic artwork or a player looking for new deck-building options, the Mega Pokémon set has something for everyone. With beloved mechanics, powerful new cards, and fair Aussie pricing, this release is shaping up to be one of the biggest of the year.

Stay tuned — we’ll update this post as more cards are revealed and preorder bonuses are confirmed.
